“A common cause for dystonia is Parkinson’s disease,” Desai said. “And, you know, especially when the medications may not be quite as effective anymore for that condition. You know, that’s where dystonia can present itself, and deep brain stimulation can be effective for it.”

Harlingen, Texas-based Valley Baptist Medical Center is reportedly the first hospital in the region to install Brainlab's robotic imaging system,KRGV reported March 1.
The hospital has used the system in several spine and neurosurgical procedures since it was acquired in mid-February.
"We're able to do more complicated surgeries, longer surgeries because we're able to focus on treating the whole spine," neurosurgeon Sohum Desai, MD, told KRGV. "It allows us to offer more for that single patient, rather than just doing single-level decompression or just offering them interventional pain management."
In February, the FDA approved two Brainlab surgical robots: the Loop-X Mobile Imaging Robot and Cirq, a robotic surgical system for spine procedures.
The company said the Loop-X is the first fully robotic intraoperative imaging device on the market, while the Cirq robotic alignment module assists surgeons during spine procedures.
